The Light of Faith

The light of faith calls all the believers, to seek and find a common path in Christ Jesus, who is the love of the Father, given to you and me in the gift of the Holy Spirit who is our true joy and peace, transforming us anew, to become sons and daughters of God.

In response to God’s call to be an instrument of the light of truth, I, Joseph Oganda come to you, the Christian family of Sacred Heart in Du Quoin after heeding the voice of our chief shepherd Bishop Edward Braxton. I have served the Christian community of St. Peter’s Cathedral as parochial vicar for three years.

With gentle eyes fixed on Christ our light, I humbly come to you holy people of God to share with you the goodness
and the beauty of God’s free gift of mercy that I have experienced while growing up in my family, a family of sixteen
in Kenya, in my seminary day at Kenrick-Glennon in St. Louis Missouri and in my time at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in
Herrin as a Deacon.

The light of God is already shining in your hearts having been set ablaze by your great and wonderful previous pastors
and with your present kind, gifted and humble servant of God, Fr. Joseph Oganda. In the spirit of collaboration and service I hope that, kneeling at the feet of Jesus, we shall eagerly follow the way set for us the the Lord: “to bring the People of God closer to Jesus Christ, by preaching the Gospel, explaining the Scriptures, celebrating the Holy Eucharist and all the Sacraments.” In order to continue growing in the light of faith, we shall attend to the needs of, “religious education and formation, the poor, the sick, vocations and with sincere heart take the journey of the Pastoral Plan for Parish Renewal and Restructuring.”

Speaking the one language of Mary, the mother of light, with an accent of “YES,” may we place our trust in the voice of love and conversion: “Do not be afraid, it is I and I am with you always until the end of time-I have conquered the world.”
