Catholic Daughters of America

Formed in 1903, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the Oldest and Largest Organizations of Catholic Women in America. Internationally they donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness.” The national CDA website can be found at http://www.catholicdaughters.org/

The purposes of the organization are to participate in the religious, charitable and educational Apostolates of the Church. Catholic Daughters of the Americas engages in creative and spiritual programs which provide its members with the opportunity to develop their God-given talents in meaningful ways that positively influence the welfare of the Church and all people throughout the world. Catholic Daughters of the Americas strives to embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equality and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

In 1908, the Du Quoin Knights of Columbus Council #1298 was formed. In 1952 the Knights purchased the building west of the school and renovated it for their use. The building was sold and torn down in 1996. In 2004 they moved into a building on South Chestnut Street.
